Previously, Dr Domingo’s research focus has taken him across a number of fields of interest; from finding a tentative link between cardiovascular disease and cancer, to the role genes play in the development of the multifactorial phenotype that is athletic ability. More recently he has turned his research focus towards the development of novel antimicrobials treating drug resistant infections - estimated to cost the U.S. economy as much as $20 billion in health care and $35 billion a year in lost productivity.
Dr Domingo has received numerous awards from the Department of Science and Technology, National Research Foundation, Medical Research Council and the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust. He has also been invited to present at numerous prestigious peer-reviewed conferences around the world including “Global Challenges in the 21st Century” and more recently as an expert on “Future-proofing Africa for the Fourth Industrial Revolution” on behalf of the United States Consulate General in Cape Town.
